Homecoming

October 21, 2017

A time-honored NSU tradition, Homecoming brings together students, parents and alumni to celebrate their Demon spirit. The weeklong festivities showcase the Demon spirit through athletic events, fun on- and off-campus activities, and entertainment. The highlight of this week is the Homecoming game when the Demons take on the UCA Bears at Turpin Stadium. The Student Activities Board Homecoming in partnership with the NSU Alumni Association has put together a schedule that has something for everyone, so come out and have a great time!

Tailgating At Collin’s Pavilion

The NSU Alumni Association hosts a tailgate party at all home football games.  Our tailgates are hosted at the Collins Family Pavilion, located in the heart of the tailgating area at NSU.  Cost to tailgate with us is just $10 per person, or FREE for our Alumni Association members.  Not a member?  Join for as little as $35 per year. If you want to get ahead of the game, and pay for your tailgating early, you can find all of our events here: NSU Alumni Association – Eventbrite.

Tailgates are a great way to enjoy the 2017 football season. The tailgate opens 3 hours prior to kick-off and closes twenty minutes before the start of the game. The tailgate features fans/heaters, clean restrooms, an area for kids, food and beverages, live entertainment, lawn games, selfie booth, vendors, and NSU Bookstore. Tickets are $10 per person for food (if not a member of the Alumni Association), and beverages are free for those of age. There will also be a visit from VIC, the football player walkthrough, and a performance from the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band. We’ll also be joined this year by the Presidential Tailgate and Faculty and Staff Tailgate, so we can all gather together as Demon Fans.

Thank you to our Official Tailgating Partner, BOM, and our corporate sponsors, Foy Motors, Barne’s & Noble, Super 1 Foods, Cane River Waterslides, Eagle Distributing, and Maggios for sponsoring our 2017 alumni tailgate parties for the entire season. Tickets for the football game can be purchased from the NSU Athletic Ticket office by calling (318) 357-4268.

Awards

NSU alumni make amazing things happen in the world. Their accomplishments significantly benefit both society and our campus, advancing the common good and inspiring others to address challenges with insight and creativity. Their actions communicate the dynamic excellence of a Northwestern State University education and the importance of service as a component of the NSU philosophy. To celebrate the accomplishments of our alumni, the NSU Alumni Association sponsors two award categories for distinguished service, one category for professional achievement, and one category for volunteerism toward the Alumni Association. While these recognitions are deserving traditions that will continue through time, the Long Purple Line Distinction serves as the highest honor and will offer a deserved permanent recognition through various elements.

Long Purple Line

Since 1990, Northwestern State University has honored outstanding former students with induction into its Hall of Distinction, or Long Purple Line.  The noteworthy achievements of those alumni reflect the success and accomplishments of countless others across the nation and world who prepared for lives and careers at NSU.
